Recently, the Latvian people are expressing a great interest for initiative against the vape flavor ban in their country. On Manabalss.lv platform, more than 10000 people have signed a petition called ”Free choice for adults! On preservation of e-cigarette aromas”.
The Saeima will review this petition and make the decision about the usage of vape flavor in Latvian.
Actually, this initiative aims to invite the parliament not to ban various kinds vape flavor. And find solution to fight illegal market and educate society about healthy choices.
In the petition, it also mentions that latest scientific data show that vapes are up to 95% less dangerous to human health than regular cigarettes.
The use of vape flavor is supported as a way out for citizens to stop using tobacco products. In addition, it is also radically combat widespread smoking-related diseases such as lung cancer.
Lūsis also emphasizes that the government should consider the result of the vape flavor ban. That is, by denying adults freedom of choice in vape flavor, the state budget could lose significant revenue from the excise tax on flavored vape pen products.
In fact, the vape industry is not interested in young people using their products.
What’s more, the organization also suggest ensuring control over compliance with this ban.
The industry’s target audience is people who are intentionally quitting smoking. According to recent studies, smoking regular cigarettes is times more harmful to health than vape pen products. Therefore, adults have a free choice – they can use vape with or without flavors.
In the petition, it mentions that, “The Saeima’s new regulations are in breach of strategies employed in the interest of public health by countries like Sweden and Britain,”.
In addition, the author of the petition, Toms Lūsis comments that,
“There is a general impression that Latvian legislators know nothing about all this ans continue basing their opinion on outdated beliefs and studies”.
