Recently, UKVIA is making an nationwide call on smokers, vape users and related industry personnel to unite and launch a petition. They hope that the British government will not ban sales of disposable vapes and fruit-flavor vapes.
The petition shines a light on the public health consequences of “excessive and counterproductive legislation”. This would reduce the effectiveness of vapes as a smoking cessation tool. The warning states that blocking fruit flavor vapes and disposable vapes may prevent adult smokers from switching to vapes. Therefore, most smokers looking to quit rely on these flavors and disposable vapes.
In this regard, the UKVIA is contacting its members, advocacy groups like WeVape, and online communities with 100,000+ adult vape users. The association hopes they will initiate a boycott immediately.
In addition, the association is also operating vigorously on social media platforms to maximize the number of petition signatures. In the meantime, it is also sharing real-life cases where vapes help quit smoking and improve life quality.
John Dunne, director general of the association, says: “Allowing vapes and flavored vapes to be banned could be the most serious health setback this century. And this may set back the smoke-free progress by years.”
What’s more, he emphasizes that we cannot let these product into the hands of minors. It is crucial to prevent young people from being exposed to vaping devices. But it should not expense the possibility of adult smokers quitting smoking.
In addition, Dunn also says that if disposable vaping products or fruit-flavor vapes are banned, it may promote the rapid growth of black market sales. This will provide a source of income for criminals. And it may lead to the emergence of unregulated and potentially dangerous illegal products. Australia and other countries have already experienced such situations.
For this reason, the association specially launches this petition. It aims to give a platform for millions of adults who have quit smoking through disposable vapes and fruit-flavored vapes to speak out.
Moreover, the new petition forms part of the ‘Save Vaping, Save Lives’ campaign. The campaign also includes providing information to association members and encouraging and mobilizing e-cigarette users to participate in the government’s consultation on youth vape use.
