The agreements reached by Juul Labs Inc. with New York, California, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Mexico, and Washington D.C. mark the latest in a series of legal settlements recently reached by Juul with cities and states across the country. The states that have already disclosed amounts include:
- Juul will pay $113 million to New York for a youth vape settlement agreement;
- Juul was ordered to pay $15.2 million to Washington, D.C;
- Illinois reached a $67.6 million settlement agreement with Juul;
- Colorado will receive a $32 million settlement from Juul;
- Massachusetts received $41 million
Through this transaction, Juul has now reached settlements with 45 states, totaling over $1 billion. The company does not acknowledge any misconduct in the settlement, including Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Mexico, and the District of Columbia.
These funds will be paid within 8 years. California received $175.8 million, Illinois received $67.6 million, Massachusetts received $41.7 million, Colorado received $31.7 million, New Mexico received $17 million, and Washington D.C. received $15 million.
On December 6th, Juul announced that it had received an investment to pay for the settlement fees. The company has been in negotiations with two early investors to fund a rescue plan that covers legal liability.
