250 million disposable vapes to be thrown away before UK vape ban

250 million disposable vapes to be thrown away before UK vape ban

Research reveals that 250 million single-use vapes will be thrown away before a UK ban in 2025. Environmental campaigners are calling for urgent action.

Environment exports are worrying about the recycling issue befor 2025 UK vape ban.

Environmental experts condemn vape industry leaders for their continued disregard for environmental regulations. And, they failed to provide in-store vape recycling services. Research by Material Focus finds that 1/10 sellers failed to provide legally required recycling services. Also, the study warns that if immediate steps are not taken to address the problem, a quarter of vapes in the UK will be discarded by mistake before the vape ban on April 1 next year.

Gillian Mackay says:

“Disposable vapes will finally be banned next year. But before that, hundreds of millions of disposable vapes will be thrown away. (This is) littering our streets, rivers, parks, and beaches with plastic and dangerous lithium batteries.”

Besides, she points out that retailers and manufacturers must take their responsibilities to the environment and communities seriously. And, the pursuit of private profits cannot be at the expense of the public.

She adds that it is extremely disappointing that many are not doing a good enough job in these responsibilities. Including almost all high street brands and convenience stores.

Materials Focus research shows that 360 million disposable vapes are sold in the UK every year. And, 5 million are discarded every week. This is equivalent to 8 vapes being thrown away every second.

Meanwhile, John Dunne, leader of the UKVIA, says:

“These figures are very concerning and more needs to be done. Not just by retailers who must shoulder their responsibility, but also government and regulators.”

To the vape manufacturers, companies, distributors and retailers.

Vape manufacturers, companies, distributors, and retailers should take proactive steps.

First, thay can implement sustainable practices. Such as offering recycling programs or promoting responsible disposal methods. Besides, vape manufacturers will need to focus on reusable and refillable vape devices. What’s more, vistributors and retailers can educate consumers about the environmental impact. And, encourage the transition to more sustainable alternatives.

In general, collaboration among all stakeholders is essential. These can minimize waste and ensure a smooth transition towards more eco-friendly vaping options.
